A Clarion Call to the Alumni
Hindu Higher Secondary School – 175 Years of a Temple of Learning
The 175th Year Celebration of our first educational institution, Hindu Higher Secondary School, is not merely the celebration of a school completing 175 glorious years. It is a tribute to an enduring institution founded by a distinguished family, deeply devoted to tradition and dedicated to Dharmic principles.
Recognised by the Archaeological Department as a heritage structure, the institution has been adorned by illustrious heads, including the Rt. Hon’ble Srinivasa Sastri, and has nurtured exceptionally distinguished alumni, among them the Nobel Laureate Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar.
For 175 years, this Temple of Learning has stood as a beacon of education, character, culture and values — fostering not merely intellectual attainment, but the holistic development of young minds, guided by ennobling principles and a rich civilisational heritage.
To have passed through the portals of this hallowed institution is a privilege; to be associated with the celebration of its 175th year is a rare and cherished opportunity. Not everyone is blessed with such an occasion to reconnect with the institution that helped shape one’s formative years.
This is, therefore, a heartfelt call to every alumnus, wherever life may have taken you.
Let us all come together, in person wherever possible, and offer our ideas, our initiative, our resources and our wholehearted participation to make this historic celebration worthy of the institution and its legacy.
For those whom distance or other circumstances prevent from being physically present, let your contribution, through a generous donation, become an expression of your enduring gratitude and attachment.
There is no need for an individual appeal or a personal reminder.
Let this be an appeal not to your purse alone, but to your conscience, your gratitude and your personal sense of belonging to this great institution.
Let each of us ask ourselves: What can I contribute to the celebration of the 175-year legacy of the institution that once opened its portals to me?
Let us rise to the occasion and collectively make this celebration a landmark in the annals of our beloved school — an offering of gratitude to the past, a celebration of the present, and a lasting legacy for generations yet to come.
Let us not merely celebrate 175 years of our school. Let us celebrate 175 years of the values, ideals and traditions that have shaped us.
I suggest we may first have pamphlets printed and circulated starting from 1st January 2027 or even earlier to be widely distributed.

Proposal for Alumni Sponsorship – 175 Years Celebration and Legacy Arch
Dear Members,
The School Management held a special meeting yesterday evening at the Anna University Alumni Club to plan the grand celebration of our school’s 175th anniversary. The meeting was chaired by our Chairman, Sri K. Sadagopan, and coordinated by the School Secretary, Shri M. O. Ram Manoj.
Alumni President, Secretary , Treasurer and Several EC alumni members, heads of various schools under the HEO, our School Headmaster, and teachers attended the function.
The meeting reflected a strong collective commitment to making this milestone a memorable and meaningful celebration for the entire school community.
We had earlier presented a structured framework for planning and conducting the 175th-year celebrations in a fitting and grand manner.
Building upon that framework, and with the objective of involving all schools under the HEO, the School Management has now proposed a series of functions and events to be organised in a phased manner at all schools under HEO. The aim is to celebrate our shared heritage, strengthen the bond among all institutions, and pass on the legacy and glorious achievements of our school to future generations.
Key Legacy Initiatives
The following initiatives have been identified as potential long-term contributions that will remain valuable for years to come:
• Construction of the Legendary 175 Years Arch at the school premises, serving as a permanent landmark commemorating this historic milestone.
• Creation of the Great Wall of 175 Years Legacy, featuring photographs and narrations of distinguished alumni, former teachers, and other icons who have brought honour and recognition to the school.
• Relaying of the Basketball Ground to modern standards, providing a significant facelift to the school and improving sports infrastructure for current and future students.
• A wide range of academic, cultural, and community programmes, including events related to academics, sports, arts, literature, social outreach, digital engagement, magazines, and souvenirs.
Launch of Celebrations
The grand launch of the 175th-year celebrations is scheduled for 26 January 2027. This occasion will mark the beginning of a year-long series of activities involving students, teachers, alumni, parents, and the wider community.
Alumni Association Sponsorship Proposal
As a lasting expression of alumni pride, gratitude, and continued connection with our alma mater, it is suggested that our Alumni Association consider sponsoring the Great 175 Years Arch, complete with marble fittings and appropriate lighting, at the school premises.
This arch will not only be a prominent landmark but will also stand as a permanent symbol of the alumni community’s enduring bond with the school. It will inspire future generations of students and serve as a visible reminder of the values, achievements, and legacy built over 175 years.
We request all members to consider this proposal favourably and share their suggestions, support, and contributions towards making this historic celebration truly memorable.
With warm regards,
K Murugan
Secretary
